Allocation Regional Report Across Regional Fishery Management Councils

The Fisheries Leadership and Sustainability Forum developed the allocation report as a reference for fishery managers and as a foundation for discussion among participants at the fall 2010 Fisheries Forum. The report provides an overview of the different approaches being considered and/or adopted by each of the eight regional fishery management councils to deal with allocation.

Bycatch Successes And Challenges Across The Regional Fishery Management Councils

Fisheries Leadership and Sustainability Forum developed the regional bycatch successes and challenges report as part of the pre-meeting materials for the fall 2009 Fisheries Forum. The purpose of the report is to provide a reference for workshop participants through brief snapshots of some of the bycatch challenges and management strategies utilized across the eight regional councils.

Risk Policy and Managing for Uncertainty Across the Regional Fishery Management Councils Report

The Fisheries Leadership and Sustainability Forum developed the risk policy and uncertainty report as a reference for fishery managers and as a foundation for discussion among participants at the spring 2010 Fisheries Forum. The report provides an overview of the different approaches being considered and/or adopted by each of the eight regional fishery management councils to deal with risk and account for uncertainty in their fishery management plans.

Gulf of Mexico Red & Gag Grouper Discussion Paper

In response to a request from Council members, the Fisheries Leadership & Sustainability Forum developed a discussion document to take a closer look at the challenges surrounding management of red and gag grouper. The purpose of this project was to draw on the experiences of managers and experts representing a diversity of regions and disciplines, and potentially broaden the range of management strategies under consideration.

Innovations Reports

The Innovations Reports highlight innovative solutions and management approaches developed and/or employed in different regions. These periodic reports provide insight into successful strategies and facilitate information-exchange between different management regions.

    The 2010 Innovations Report highlights unique strategies adopted by three regional fishery management councils, including an improvement in a stock assessment program, a shift in the burden of proof for climate change, the adoption of overfishing limits for data-poor stocks, and an adaptive management approach for a multispecies fishery. The report is intended to emphasize these innovative solutions to fisheries management issues and to facilitate information exchange between the various regions.
